Blake Griffin reclaimed his status as the undisputed leader of the Los Angeles Clippers with a three-pointer that helped them win 103-104 visitors to the Portland Trail Blazers and remain unbeaten in the Western Conference.
Griffin hit a three-pointer when time was up and made the difference in favor of the Angelino team that found a way to win again. The Clippers' stellar power forward, who scored 16 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter, received the ball on the left side of the field and threw the triple from the edge of the line.
The advantage on the scoreboard changed hands six times in the last two minutes. Along with Griffin, four other Clippers players had double digit numbers, including Italian forward Danilo Gallinari and base guard Austin Rivers, who scored 16 points each. Patrick Beverley and reserve guard Lou Williams also got 13 points each to complete the list of best scorers of the Clippers who have a perfect score of 4-0 and are already only with the Spurs of San Antonio the only two Western Conference and league teams that are undefeated. DeAndre Jordan had seven points and 18 rebounds, which left him as the team leader in that facet of the game, while also put three caps.
Damian Lillard scored 14 of his 25 points in the third quarter for Portland (3-2), which left him the team's leading scorer, as well as six assists. C.J. McCollum had 23 points but missed one of two free throws with five seconds remaining to give the Blazers a three-point lead. All five Trail Blazers holders had double-digit numbers, including Puerto Rican forward Maurice Harkless, who had 13 pts, captured four rebounds, two assists, recovered a ball, lost another and put a stopper. Reserve forward Ed Davis with 10 rebounds was the best Trail Blazers in that facet of the game.
