Atlanta lost in the room of Georgia Tech and in front of a very sparse public against the team C of the Mavericks (108-94) in spite of holders present to the game.
Mike Budenholzer's men gave in at the first quarter to the outside address of the Dallas substitutes (19/48 by far) and were never able to return to the game.
The Mavs did not leave from Georgia either with smiles as Dennis Smith Jr. had a sprained left ankle, a priori without too much gravity.
The back line of Rick Carlisle fills a little more the Texas infirmerie. Despite the many absent visitors, it is the men in blue who quickly took the game in their hands. Driven by a success behind the almost insolent bow, Dallas dug since the end of the first act. In this small game, rotations like Gian Clavell (19 points to 5/10 away), Maxi Kleber (16 points to 4/8 away) or PJ Dozier (14 points) have enjoyed the game up tempo to show . With the Smith Jr - Noel - Ferrell - Powell quartet limited in game time, the substitutes held the Mavs home and beautifully.
Dennis Smith Jr.'s injury only tarnished the enthusiasm of the Texans. Touched at the left ankle on a penetration at the end of the second quarter, the rookie leader did not come back. "We do not think it's too serious, it is possible that he plays Friday" but reassured his coach. Already deprived of Seth Curry on the flank, the backcourt would start to seriously fall for the beginning of the season.
For his part, Atlanta still has some work to do. Too little concerned at the start of the game, the Hawks holders did not show the efforts necessary to turn the fate of the meeting. Defensively, the rotations struggled to get in place, leaving the enemy shooters far too lonely. Only Kent Bazemore took a big game (20 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists in 25 minutes) to make up for a Dennis Schröder out of the way on both sides of the floor (9 points to 2/10, one decisive pass). It is the end of the preseason, but the Hawks will have to activate to put things in order. To be dominated by the third rotation of a team announced in the soft belly of the Western Conference is a prospect not very happy.
