Everything had started so well for Golden State. Rings of champions to the fingers, new banner to the ceiling of the Oracle, they dominated Houston for three quarters before seeing the Rockets return at the end of the match to achieve the exploit behind 71 points of the Trio Harden - Gordon - Tucker and an intractable defense in the last quarter (122-121).
Despite 23 points of Nick Young, the Warriors start their season like last year, by a defeat against a Texas team with a last shot at the buzzer of Kevin Durant, logically refused. In an Oracle heated after the traditional handing-over of the champions' rings, the Warriors pick up where we left them in Game 5 of the NBA finals. Boiling in attack and boosted in defense, they pass a 22-9 to the Rockets behind eleven points of Klay Thompson to three out of three by far.
The awakening of Houston finally arrives and coincides with the exits of Stephen Curry and Draymond Green for two faults. Without their masters to play, Golden State enchains the ball losses and sterile possessions, leaving the Rockets and their five small-sized players back to their heights through a 15-2. Nick Young, who scored three shots in three minutes, gave them the lead but James Harden immediately answered (35-34).
At 90 seconds of the final buzzer, everything remains to be done (121-120). With CP3 on the bench and Tucker in pivot, it's Houston's defense that makes the difference. They go back in front of two free throws of P.J. Tucker but it is Golden State that has the match ball. With 10 seconds on the clock, Stephen Curry missed the opportunity to win the game but Kevin Durant believes he saved him the win at the buzzer. But for a few thousandths of seconds, his shot is refused by the referee and it is Houston who pockets a first victory.
