Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook had 27 points, six rebounds and five assists that allowed his team to beat the devalued Dallas Mavericks 112-99.
The victory was Westbrook's gift on the day of his twenty-ninth birthday, and the Thunder got the second straight to go 6-7 after having suffered a four-game losing streak. The forward Paul George, with 37 points, was in charge of leading the winning attack of the Thunder, who played without two of their five starters. Carmelo Anthony was ruled out an hour before the game began to suffer from pain in the lower back, while the New Zealander center Steven Adams recovered from a contusion in the right calf. Despite their absences, the attack of the Thunder in the third period achieved a partial 26-10 that was the one that broke the score in their favor. Spanish guard Álex Abrines played 15 minutes as reserve of the Thunder and contributed three points by scoring 1 of 2 field goals, including a triple attempt, and did not go to the personnel line. Abrines captured two rebounds, had a turnover and committed two personal fouls.
Forward Harrison Barnes was once again the undisputed leader of the Mavericks, who have the worst record in the league (2-12), getting a double-double of 22 points and 13 rebounds, including 11 defensive. Base Yogi Ferrell became the second highest scorer with 18 points, which also did not save the Mavericks, who have lost nine of the last 10 games. Another baseman, Puerto Rican Jose Juan Barea played 20 minutes as reserve for the Mavericks and scored 9 points after scoring 3 of 10 field goals, 1 of 5 triples, and 2-2 from the personnel line. The veteran Puerto Rican baseman also captured three rebounds, split two assists, recovered two balls and committed three personal fouls. While his compatriot, rookie guard Gian Clavell went on the track eight minutes as reserve and got five points by scoring 1 of 3 field goals, including a three-pointer of two attempts, and hit 2-2 from the personnel line, with a loss of the ball.
